Today’s shoppers spend a lot of time on the computer before they shop, so they can work a great deal out before shopping. There is so much information online that shoppers sometimes forget the basics, which are equally important when making notable purchases like appliances. So, here are nine basics to address when shopping for appliances:
1. What are the dimensions of the appliances in your kitchen? Measure the location where you plan to replace an appliance because some sizes of appliances located in cabinetry may surprise you. Older wall ovens might be sized smaller than today’s models, so you should check before you purchase your appliance.
2. What is your lifestyle? While you may have a specific model in mind, be open-minded because the best deal on an appliance may not be the best fit for your family. If you entertain or have a large family, consider your refrigerator storage space, two ice makers, or a double oven for more cooking capability.
3. Does the special price represent an in-stock product? Products do go out of stock during sales, so you should always ask about the product being in stock or at least available quickly before you purchase it.
4. Do you need to have your appliance purchase held until renovations are completed? Not every retailer has the ability to hold your appliance in its inventory until you’re ready to receive it. Ask about layaway details and how long you can wait before you have to have it delivered.
5. What about potential maintenance and repair issues? Computer boards and other new technologies inside products like appliances are designed for better performance, smarter features, and energy efficiency, yet they may not last like that 30-year old clothes washer that just won’t quit. Be sure to specifically ask who you need to call if problems happen.
6. How can the product be protected against costly repairs? Nearly every appliance has a manufacturer’s warranty, but many times they’re limited to only one year of protection. Ask about warranty options and decide if that’s the peace of mind you need with your purchase.
7. What are the details behind delivery? Delivery today can have a very different meaning based on where you purchase. For some retailers, it means literally dropping it at your front door and for other retailers, it means full delivery including installation and hauling away your old appliance.
8. What accessories are necessary with your purchase? Always ask if additional items are required like new hoses for a clothes washer when you purchase.
9. Can I get financing and how does it work? No matter the price tag of your purchase, ask about financing and the terms available.
