An evening weekend stroll in downtown Franklin brings to light many different eateries and unique shops, but when you come across this historic bakery and restaurant, it reaches out to you in a special way.
Once used as a harness shop, this old warehouse on Fourth Avenue transformed into Merridee’s Breadbasket and quickly became a favorite gathering place in Franklin. Jim Kreider and his dedicated team of bakers, cooks, and friendly staff provide local patrons and visitors a truly unique and delightful experience at Merridee’s. Everything is still made from scratch, the old-fashioned way – just bags of flour, whole grains, sugar, flats of eggs, and cases of real creamery butter.
Merridee’s Breadbasket has been featured in Southern Living Magazine, on the Food Network’s Best of Baker’s Show, and on Nashville Public Television’s Tennessee Crossroads. The Merridee’s of today echoes the past as their famous recipes are served among worn-down hardwood floors with nails for buggy harnesses lodged in the huge wood rafters above and antique glass and wood counter displays. Merridee’s continues to be a great destination for anyone who desires to experience a true slice of historic America mixed with flavor and tradition.
