Color 2025 the Most Stylish Design Year Yet

As we wind down on 2024 and look toward the year ahead, we lean on trusted brands to offer a glimpse of what’s in store for 2025. While we typically showcase the latest in design or appliance trends, today we’re sharpening the focus on the colors that will guide our interiors next year. And while Pantone is often revered as the gold standard in color forecasting, having done so since 1999, in more recent years, other respected brands such as Behr and Benjamin Moore have jumped on board, each offering their insights into the world of color.

These Colors of the Year have all, no doubt, been carefully selected. They give a hint at what to expect of next year’s aesthetic trends, sure. But they also reflect our collective moods and aspirations. From more subdued earth tones to bolder, more expressive shades, this year’s chosen colors provide vivid insight into what to expect in next year’s design sensibility.

Pantone: Mocha Mousse

Pantone recently announced its 2025 Color of the Year. Always a much-anticipated proclamation, the latest selection for this honor is none other than Mocha Mousse. As its name suggests, it’s a rich, creamy shade of brown that conjures feelings of warmth and indulgence. Look for it to bathe entire rooms or simply to provide an understated accent. Here are some examples of Mocha Mousse in the wild.

Benjamin Moore: Cinnamon Slate

Described as a “mix of heathered plum and velvety brown,” Benjamin Moore’s Color of the Year is Cinnamon Slate (aka 2113-40). This rich, earthy hue is moody yet understated. It has an interesting “sweet but not too sweet” vibe that is surprisingly versatile and pairs well with black, beige, bronze, pale pink, and pale green. Take a look.

Valspar: Encore

If bold blue is more to your taste, Valspar’s Color of the Year delivers. Encore (8002-45G) feels like wrapping up in a warm, cozy blanket and leaning into the joy and comfort that comes with it. This rich hue pairs beautifully with more subdued colors such as lavender and sage.

Glidden: Purple Basil

As if to say, “Color is back!” Glidden flips the script on boring and goes bold with its Color of the Year. Purple Basil is as you would expect based on the color of the culinary herb. It’s an energizing jewel tone that elevates a space with a sort of regalness we haven’t seen for a while, and it’s not just for walls. This color permeates all design opportunities — from fabric to fixtures.

Dutch Boy: Mapped Blue

A more elegant shade than its name might suggest, Dutch Boy’s Mapped Blue (429-5DB) leans ever so slightly toward a seafoam versus a true blue. A calm and easy-to-pair color, this shade provides a stable foundation on which to build, or create a neutral base and incorporate pops of Mapped Blue through accents and finishing touches.

HGTV Home by Sherwin-Williams: Quietude

This subtle shade is as its name suggests: serene and sophisticated. Quietude (HGSW6212) is a cool hue that establishes a sense of calm in any space. Liven it up with a vibrant yellow accent, or subdue it with more neutral shades. It’s versatile, for sure.

Behr: Rumors

A deep, subdued red by Behr, “Rumors” has dramatic potential within its minimalist vibe. A dynamic starting point to be dressed up or down, this rich tone is warm and inviting.
