As fall settles in like a fog on a misty morning, it brings its warm, cozy touch to all parts of our homes. Pumpkin breads and cranberry jellies make their way into our kitchens, but when it comes to putting together tablescapes, arranging a bunch of gourds or getting too literal with brown-and-orange centerpieces can bring down the “wow” factor.
If you want to ditch the cliché and ensure elegance, we have some tips and tricks of the trade to upgrade your fall dinner decor. Here are some of great ways to take your fall tablescapes to the next level:
Find Your Anchor
Every tablescape needs something that unifies the look and ties all of its components together. A rustic box, an antique mirror, a silk scarf or a textured table runner serves as a foundation for the rest of the tablescape and sets the tone for the table.
Incorporate Your Collectibles
If you’re thinking you need to run to a store to buy new items, take a look around and see if your favorite things can work. Many times we have a collection of things we love that can work together to create something unique and personal. Mercury glass, stoneware or crystal ware can be just the collection you need to make your table stand out.
Use the Odds
In almost all things visual, odd numbers are the way to go, whether it’s olives in a martini or candles on your table. A variety of heights and textures add interest to your tablescape and keep it looking fresh.
Get Personal
Rather than having a single centerpiece or tablescape in the center of the table, create individual ones for each guest. You can place a small vase at each place, a tea cup with a miniature pumpkin or a sprig of fall herbs and buds to welcome your guests.
With Color, Don’t Be Too Literal
Going all out with orange and brown or cranberry might seem like an easy option, but that look can feel heavy and traditional. Instead, try peach, ivory, or greys to lighten the table. You can also go with a mostly white tablescape and subtle brown accents to make it feel elegant and upscale.
